Croatia on my radar

The travel guides describe Croatia as ‘stunning’ and ‘beautiful’. That’s true, they are, but these words just don’t do the country justice. Croatia is so much more than that.

Croatia has been in my list for long. Looking at pictures online or in brochures really isn’t enough to appreciate the tranquil feeling you get from being in the area. Take your camera but don’t spend the day behind the lens.

It’s difficult to
think of anywhere in Croatia that isn’t naturally beautiful, but there are places that leave a lasting impression. Plitvice Lakes National Parkis one of these places. Out of the eight National Parks that Croatia has, this is the largest and should be at the top of anyone’s list of places to visit. The park has the most incredible lakes.

What you often don’t realize when it comes to the Plitvice Lakes National Park is that you can’t go swimming due to the sensitivity of the environment. If you love to swim and find it a bit frustrating that you can’t just dive in, head further south and discover the Krka National Park as well. Families will love this because you can go swimming in the waterfalls, but if you don’t like being in the water you can go on a boat excursion instead. There’s no doubt that these excursions available will provide you with fantastic sightseeing, but one of the best ones takes you on a trip down the river so that you can see the Krka Monastery and the medieval fortresses which were built in the 14thcentury.

Of course, Croatia isn’t just about the national parks, as picturesque as they are. You should also take the time to visit the endearing city of Dubrovnik, on the Dalmatian coast. Part of Dubrovnik’s charm lies in the fact that this city has picked up itself after the shelling which destroyed parts of its historic city centre. The city’s famous walls still live on proud though. While in Dubrovnik, you can take a walk through the old marble streets, or catch the cable car up to Mount Srđ and admire the inspiring views. You can savour this even more over something to eat or drink in the restaurant or bar at the top.

These are all must see places, but there is so much more to discover. With traveling to Croatia being very easy (Croatia flights run regularly), there really is no reason not to visit.

  1. It’s one place that you should not miss exploring at any cost. Balmy weather, sumptuous food, warm and friendly people, abundance of historic heritage, it is a must visit nation. I visited Dubrovnik a couple of months ago and I must say I have absolutely fallen in love with that place.
