As a backpacker I know, eating out every single meal can get expensive while travelling; therefore many a times we feel like cooking in a hostel kitchen. It is a great way to save money when we are travelling.
So, when Hostelbookers invited me to add my simplest recipe for a hungry backpacker, I was more than happy to share one.
I wanted to make a wholesome meal which can be made very easily within minutes after a tiring day. The number of ingredients and number of steps were restricted to a max. of five. The challenge for me is to use ingredients that are easily available internationally.
Ingredients for a corn flakes meal.
Ingredients
Corn Flakes – 2 bowls
Onion – 1 medium – chopped
Capsicum (or bell pepper) – 1 medium – chopped
Tomato – 1 medium – diced
Green peas – ½ cup
water – 200 ml,
Cooking oil, salt to taste,
coriander leaves or grated cheese for garnishing.
Method
1. Heat 1 table spoon oil in a pan and saute onion till brown & tender.
2. Add tomato and peas and cook for 5 minutes.
3. Add capsicum and saute till they are tender.
4. Add salt and water and bring it to boil.
5. Lower flame, add Corn flakes while constantly stirring till it becomes thick.
Yummy wholesome meal.
You may garnish with fresh coriander or grated cheese.
You may add vegetables of your choice such as carrots, cauliflower or spinach.
Total time taken 20 minutes.

I too need to experiment with this recipe. It could be handy when my bai does not turn up. Thank you so much.
@Santosh,
I am waiting to hear how was it. 😛
@PNS,
You must try it sometime and let me know.
nice one nisha. I am going to try this out in my limited kitchen when we move into the apartment next week…
He he, nice one Nisha!! Dish looks tempting!! Though I ain’t a foodie much but still will ask my wife to give a try and may be it may help in some onsite trip one day being a veggie… My wife strictly keep herself away when we travel so no chance for me while traveling.
जी ललचाये, बनाये बिना रहा ना जाये।
Looks interesting, though am still apprehensive to try! Maybe I will also wait till my maid decides to never show up again 🙂
p.s. am just kidding 🙂
Looks colorful, delicious, healthy and easy to cook!!! Will try it out for sure Nisha:)
What a great recipe- I need to experiment with this.
