London has always enjoyed a cherished place in the heart of Indian travellers and tourists alike and of mine as well. For me, it has always been ahead of even Paris. So much so if you have not been to London then you have not travelled! Alternately, if you have been to London then nothing else matters. 🙂 🙂
While the people of India may want to travel to London so much, the GBP, in the past had been steadily climbing. But happy days are here again. Last few months INR has been gaining ground against the Pound Sterling. Timing is perfect with Christmas and New Year just round the corner. So get your paper and pencil to start planning your visit to London with British Airways.
Following are a few things to do this winter in London, in addition to the usual sites.
Visit some of the Christmas markets along the Thames. Beat the cold with mulled wine and make your purchases. Oh, how much I miss mulled wine! Of course Christmas markets are there everywhere with their many wooden chalets selling toys, accessories decorations etc. Go on, pick up that last minute bauble!
On Christmas Eve and New Year Eve take up your positions for the quarter hour fireworks show at Thames at the stroke of mid night. Maybe you could take your positions in one of the London eye capsules to watch this phenomenal pyrotechnics.
Can shopping be far away! Shop till you drop in Regent Street and Oxford Street. As an esteemed client of British Airways, get exclusive shopping offers. Or just enjoy the Christmas Lighting, while sipping (did I say it before?) mulled wine.
Go Pubbing. No visit to London can be complete without enjoying the hospitality of London Pubs. Find the watering hole that serves your favourite winter warmer. During Christmas many pubs also serve their innovative concoctions and many of them have theme based decorations that are just beautiful.
For the sporting type. Several open-air ice skating rinks spring up during this time. The rinks are mostly near historical places and offers spectacular views in the background. Evenings are especially beautiful with all the colored lighting keeping the darkness in abeyance.
Ice Sculptures at Canary Wharf exhibits world sculptures carved out of huge blocks of ice. This reminds me of various ice sculptures I have seen in many cities. While it was not held last year, we hope it returns with a bang and is a must visit if stick around till end of January 2017.
Head to Hyde Park for one of the biggest winter fairs, the Winter Wonderland. Enjoy ice skating and circus, later rest your tired self and warm up with a glass of … you guessed right, mulled wine. This is a one-stop place of amusement for children and adults both.
Keep your fingers crossed for a white Christmas in London and make your plans to stay on well in into the New Year 2017.
London I am coming !!!
