Famous for its weird and wonderful natural rock formations and unique historical heritage, Cappadocia is a must do place in Turkey besides Istanbul. This is a place where you can let your imaginations run wild with the rock formations.
A Camel rock!! A rock in the shape of a camel. 🙂
Dancing dervishes. 🙂
Camels alongside dolphins, dancing dervishes and what not? The ‘Imagination Valley’ has it all.
Göreme, which is located among a large number of tuff cones, termed fairy chimneys, is the best place to see these strange formations. Miraculous natural wonders and history come together here to form one of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
Can you see the doors & windows in this rock? That’s how the monks lived.
Can you visualize many of these fairy chimneys have been hollowed out over the centuries to create houses, churches, monasteries and storage facilities?
Goreme Open air Museum.
The surreal rocks and the tourists on camel.
Where your imagination takes you? 😛
The fairy chimneys have been formed as the result of wind and water erosion of two different volcanic layers: A thick layer of consolidated volcanic ash covered by a thin layer of basalt that is more resistant to erosion. The ease of carving into this stuff made these rocks home to many monks who hid themselves for centuries. Goreme Open Air Museum which is declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO is another attraction not to be missed.
The landscape of Cappadocia is spectacular and the sand is pure white like snow. There are mysterious underground cities where Christians lived for generations without surfacing. It is wild and imaginative. Cappadocia is a fairy tale land that comes alive. A hot air balloon ride will take you around this fantasy.
Climb a small hill and you’ll find pure white sand like snow!
Travel Tip- Don’t forget to have Dondurma, the Turkish ice cream and enjoy the Belly dance, without which, visit to any town in Turkey isn’t complete. If you have time, try ATV or a ride in Hot Air Balloon.
