Added to that were the heritage and beautiful tourist sites of Gujarat. Considering we got the car in January, we quickly decided to start with Ahmedabad and enjoy the Kite Festival during Uttarayan. I could see my friend not very happy with that name. After all he had travelled with this airline in the past and wasn’t too pleased by its service and performance.
However, I didn’t pay any heed to him. Being an international traveller I have experienced all kinds of airlines. But this was my first time with Turkish airlines and so I still wondered what it would be like.

Remember I was invited by Tourism board of Spain to their country ? We flew Turkish Airlines, which has become a major airlines operating out of India. The flight was from Mumbai to Madrid via Istanbul and back.

Apam Balik – A Malaysian Street Food

I call Malaysia my second home and the one thing that has always fascinated me about this beautiful country is the variety of food available for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Malaysians love to eat and I heard from one of the locals that they eat a minimum of six meals a day! He was so right; wherever I go in Malaysia there is always ample food in sight.

I’d mentioned earlier about a street dish called Apam Balik. I have tasted many traditional Malaysian street foods while touring the country and Apam Balik is one of them. This crispy peanut pancake is also known as Chin Loong Pau in Chinese, something Indians can relate to as it is similar to the south Indian dish dosa.

I tried to find it in restaurants but it’s probably better on the street. The best ones can be found at the morning markets or the night bazaars. This is a must try if you’re planning to visit Malaysia.

Homestays in India

There’s a saying in India, “Atithi Devo Bhava“, which means “the guest is God”. Indians consider it a great honor to have guests in their home and go out of their way to pamper and please them. Sadly, most travelers coming to India stay in hotels and never get to experience the true homely ambience of Indian hospitality. But all this is changing now, thanks to growing popularity of homestays in India.

A homestay is similar in concept to that of a bed and breakfast in a family home, staying with a family or in separate quarters nearby. One gets a first hand experience of the place, local culture, traditions, the ethnic cuisine and people besides getting to interact with the host family. It is considered a home away from home. It is far more economical and in my view, more exciting than staying in hotels.
A visit to India as a destination would remain incomplete without experiencing the warmth of a family in a typical home. There are so many options for staying with Indian families, and eating their home cooked food, all over the country.

Review: 1947 Veg. Indian Restaurant

Recently I was in Bangalore for a hop, skip and run kind of a trip. But that does not mean I can not enjoy some delicacies at a decent place. Right ? Here is review of a Veg. Indian restaurant named 1947.

As the name suggests, this vegetarian family restaurant situated at Banashankari III on outer ring road near Deve Gowda Petrol pump, is with an ambience of year 1947 in contemporary period.

Clever Airlines

Recently I came back to my base after more than a month. My trip was packed with activities with not a single half day to spare. Most of the tickets were booked either by air or train depending on the sector, availability and convenience. Because of the summer rush, some of the tickets were waitlisted but I was quite satisfied with the arrangements that were made for me.

On one such domestic sector (Chennai to Mumbai), I had confirmed air-ticket. I had to catch 7:50 PM flight and was looking forward to having dinner with my family at Mumbai.
