Evocative Balinese Crafts & Arts

One of the aspects of our short but interesting tour of Indonesia, which is forever etched in my mind, is the many types of handicrafts in vogue there. The crafty carvers of Bali have indeed carved a place in our hearts. From painting to sculpture to other forms, the craft magic was enchanting and wove us into its spell. I will talk about some of them here.

Phallic Shrine in Bangkok

Phallic Shrine in Bangkok

It was afternoon and we were itching to see some non-touristy places in Bangkok after some minor shopping in Platinum Fashion Mall.
Vasu suggested that we go to this shrine which is famous for seeking the blessings for fertility. And so it is also called Fertility shrine. Although we were done with fertility for this lifetime, 🙂 I agreed and we started walking in the bright and hot sunshine!

Jordan through their eyes

Jordan through their eyes

Every place that we visit leaves a mark on us and the experience lingers on for a long time. Maybe some incidents, food, monuments or people, there are plethora of reasons why that place is stuck in our memories and that leads to the question…. What factors lift a moment from the banal to the “unforgettable” status? What makes some moments stand out over others?
In Jordan we travelled in a group and each one’s expectations and experiences were like different colors of an artist’s palette. It is only when the artist combines these colors in his own way do we get to see the magnificent picture. Some of them have penned down about their favourite places to complete the picture of Jordan.

World Post Day

World Post Day

World Post Day is celebrated on 9th October every year, that is today. Contrary to the popular belief that the first post office started functioning on this day, it is actually the day on which Universal Postal Union was established in 1874 in Berne.

Enough of history. Why am I talking about this?

If the entrance is this inviting, who would not like to go in ?
Is not it a good way to invite to a museum?

Smiling Taiwan

A lot of people visit Taiwan only for Taipei 101. It is an extremely popular tourist attraction. That, plus entry ticket of NT$1000 (Approx. INR 2000); the budget traveler in me had almost decided against visiting it. In the end better sense prevailed and I took a metro to Taipei 101. I can never regret visiting it. I am yet to write about the place but here is something else about it.

The Charms of Largo do Senado

When in Macau, after satisfying one’s thirst and inclination for gambling and exhausting bulk of travel money in casinos, most tourists spend their evenings at Largo Do Senado or the Senado Square or, if you want to be very correct, Senate Square. Goes without saying that the seat of Macau government was in the building nearby called by a very official sounding name Edificio do Leal Sendao (the Loyal Senate Building).

Not only the tourists, I guess, a lot of Macanese too spend their time here. It is a hangout place!

A Peek from The Peak !

“Top of Hong Kong” screamed a flyer. “The Ultimate Hong Kong Experience” said another. “The highest 360 degrees viewing terrace in Hong Kong” articulated a third one.

Only this morning we arrived in Hong Kong by the high speed catamaran from Macau. We just got down to unpacking and planning for the day, in our hotel, in the far off New Territories of Hong Kong aka Harbour City.
