Interview with an international chef

I was invited to attend the Malaysian Food Festival which is being held in Mumbai. So when I went there yesterday, I was welcomed by the very warm & courteous staff of India Jones, Hotel Trident to a corner table near a French window.

After the regular customaries, the Malay Chef Kamarudin Bin Dali was informed and he came to my table to greet me. We exchanged greetings and he asked me what I wanted to order from the menu, so that he could start preparing it for me. He also gave me his business card and left for the kitchen.

A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe.” -Thomas Keller

I wanted to speak to the person who puts soul in those dishes. I put in request to the staff asking if it would be possible. The Chef was kind enough to oblige me for a few minutes from his busy schedule.

Here is a short interview with him. I can actually call it a chit chat.

Kala Ghoda Arts Festival

I live in Mumbai and yet this was my first time at KGAF (Kala Ghoda Arts Festival). Call it my bad luck, I was always out of town at this time of the year.
I used to wonder what is so fascinating about this festival that people come here from other parts of India to attend it and I haven’t done so! Thankfully, I now know the reason.

This 9 day art festival is held every year in Mumbai with various themes and interpretations with representation of social issues, the state of our country what it is today. Many artists show their creativity through their work. Not only this, the sub-festivals feature the visual arts, dance, music, theatre, cinema, literature, lectures, seminars and workshops, heritage walks and special events for children as well. Various NGOs also have their stalls selling their products.

Without wasting time further I show you a glimpse of KGAF. Please read the captions below the photos to know what they depict. You can see many more photos of KGAF on my Facebook page.

Delhi 101 – A review

Delhi 101 – A review
This book was sent to me sometime back by a blogger friend Ajay Jain for a review. I have been following all his travel stories since quite some years now when he had not written so many books. 🙂

In this book, Ajay writes about Delhi, his hometown, a city that he grew up in and continues to live. Having associated with Delhi myself, I wanted to know about the city through somebody else’s eyes.

Is it different from what I know of Delhi? Is it a one point reference book? Is it a detailed guide?
Well, no! None of them. But you’ll still find it a mix of these and interesting enough to browse through. I agree with the author that one can never write a complete book on Delhi; it has so many ever growing dimensions and layers laced with history that it is impossible to write about them in one single book.

Vista D90, a sneak preview

Close on the heels of our trip to Ahmedabad, Tata Motors had called me up and delivered a spanking new Tata Indica Vista D90, Tata’s new hatchback in the Vista series before its launch, at my door step. The reason, well, drive it in the city and highways and let us know what you think about.

Since I was to have the car for 3 days and had some work in Pune, I decided not to go too far but picked Pune as a destination for one day and the other days just drive around in case I need to go somewhere. I am not a fan of wasting fuel & time just for the heck of it.

Date with Ford Figo – A Review

Road Trip to Gujarat

Ford company recently offered me a car, a Ford Figo for review and we decided on Ahmedabad to take it for a spin. It was time to hit the roads again.

Road trip to Gujarat in Ford Figo

This was one road trip which we been waiting for a while. We had heard so much about the beautiful roads of Gujarat that made driving pleasurable. Added to that were the heritage and beautiful tourist sites of Gujarat. Considering we got the car in January, we quickly decided to start with Ahmedabad and enjoy the Kite Festival during Uttarayan. Our complete itinerary looked like this.

Tropical Islands of Thailand

Tropical Islands of Thailand

I have travelled extensively in Thailand. The country & its beautiful locations fascinate me no end. So when I received a guest post from Sankara about pristine locations of Thailand, I was more than happy to publish it here.

Over to Sankara now.

It is that time of the year when most of the world is fleeing to the warmer tropical destinations of the world to spend their beach holiday. And what better way to spend it than the beautiful tropical islands of Thailand. These tropical islands ensure that the tourists are spoilt for choice when it comes to white sands, great diving spots, fresh sea food, a relaxing experience and lots of sunshine.

Like most of the tourists, I too have been spending a little over one month in different tropical islands of Thailand and below is a collection of some pictures that I took during this time. Hope these pictures entice you to explore these islands yourself.
