Golden Beaches and Secluded Coves of Cyprus

Golden Beaches and Secluded Coves of Cyprus

Back to one of my favourite topics. The Mediterranean region. 😀

I remember once I was given an opportunity to fly to a Mediterranean island which is supposed to be in part Europe and part Asia. This was going to be pure work. On hearing the name of the country, I had refused. It was fashionable to work only in US, West Europe and some other countries. Working in a small island in the medi was not considered at all.

Things have changed now. I don’t mind exploring Cyprus which is now fully part of the European Union.

Vacation in Cyprus, situated close to Turkey but dominated by Greeks, will take you to a beautiful island situated in the east Mediterranean with around 648 KM of coastline. This island Cyprus has been inhabited since the Greek and Roman times.
Beaches and night clubs are definitely part of the Agenda, as is the case with a Mediterranean destination. Most vacationers will stick to the coastal areas, exploring the golden beaches, Crystal waters and secluded coves and will head for Blue Flag beaches which have been categorized by Cyprus government as eco-friendly and best beaches with good hotels.
The warm seas are a great place to try snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, waterskiing and much more.
However Cyprus is known for its long history and pre-history. Archeologists have found well preserved per-historic town which is a mind-boggling 9000 years old!
Now of course it is reasonably well developed. Culturally it is closer to Turkey and off late they have made mark in Sports as well. I still get goose bumps when I remember the day when Baghdatis, the child faced tennis player is from Cyprus, played one of his best match against Agassi.
If not for anything else, we should go there at least for the reason that Aphrodite (the Greek goddess of love) and Adonis (God of rebirth) were Cypriots and were probably the first couple to be maimed by a Cupid’s arrow!

  1. Extremely beautiful photograph of the secluded beach. Not a single soul there. I have been learning about Cyprus from the day it got independence. Formerly a British Colony. There was so much news about Archbishop Macarios who became the first President.
