Tea as a Gift or Souvenir

Thé Chai, çay, tea, or teh… Whatever name you call it by…. tea has become an integral part of our daily life. Reading morning newspaper, travelling on a train, driving down in the wilderness, watching the rain, or waiting at a bus stop in mountains… we enjoy our cup of tea very much. I don’t specifically look for any tea houses near me.

History of Thé, Chai or Tea

The history of tea spreads across multiple cultures over the span of thousands of years. The fascinating history originates from the earliest times in Imperial China, right up to its present status and place at the heart of a commoner anywhere in the world. As per a medical text written by Hua Tuo in 3rd century AD, tea was used as a medicinal drink. It spread to western world in around 16th century.

Another version says the Chinese emperor Shen Nung was sitting under a tree while his servant boiled drinking water, when some leaves from the tree fell into the water. Shen Nung, a renowned herbalist, decided to try the infusion that his servant had accidentally created. The tree was a Camellia Sinensis, and the resulting drink was what we now call Thé or tea.

I am sure many of you are tea lovers like me. Though I drink tea twice a day and can manage with only a cup a day, the husband is a big tea lover and can easily consume 10-15 cups of desi tea, albeit in small quantities!

Simple plain tea with milk, black tea, Herbal tea, masala chai, Assam tea, Lemon tea, Ginger tea, Tulsi tea, Apple or any other flavored tea… Are you a fan of only one kind or do you like to try out different flavours of tea? That brings us the question.

Do you buy tea as a gift or souvenir?

I do. Many times.
I once had three tea gift boxes in Tin from England. It was an attractive gift basket for tea lovers. A set of embossed metal caddies featuring famous icons from London’s rich heritage in the shape of a letter box, open bus and a telephone booth. A compact sized thé box for tourists to carry. I still remember the color… RED ! And the flavours were English Breakfast tea, best Earl Grey tea and English Afternoon tea. 😀

Over the period of time, it has become a good practice to buy tea presents in the form of tea leaves, sachets, tea sets, tea boxes etc. These tea gift ideas can vary in flavors or size. Packaged in beautiful boxes in shapes of Mugs, teapots or even some monument gives it a nice feel & makes it memorable too.

  1. Shreya,
Well, I always carry a variety of gifts and when you meet somebody for a cup of coffee (tea), you can easily find out whether the person is fond of tea or not. 🙂

P.S.- I generally buy tea for my dear ones who are tea drinkers.
