Celebrating Muay Thai

Through time, the way we treat each other has brought about what is known to the world as our national identity. This could be as meticulous or simple as in the way we greet each other.

On the similar lines Discover Thainess is the beginning of a journey into the spirit of Thailand and Thai people. This year they celebrate each month with parades of events and activities that will give you an extensive look at their exquisite traditions as well as Thailand’s amazing destinations.

I have decided to write every month about these traditional festivals and events of Thailand.
March is for Muay Thai Festival.
Fast, furious & frightening, Muay Thai is truly a one of its kind of martial arts where all body parts are used as weapons to fight against foes. Literally!

Behind its renowned
combat prowess, what makes Muay Thai so unique is its ritualistic process where faith, pride and respect come together in the Wai Kru ceremony. It’s a sacred ritual where the fighter show respect to the Muay Thai master.
The first record of Muay Thai is dated as early as half a million ago. Since then, the art of Thai boxing had been passed down from masters to students. It has now found its way to international fame.

This month, Thailand has arranged a grand Wai Kru ceremony right at the birthplace of the art in the Ayutthaya Historical Park. Hence all are invited to join this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

    Ha Ha

You might have noticed that it doesn’t have my watermark. This picture was given to me by Thailand authority much before I saw any Muay Thai activity. 😀
